But there was ONE STIPULATION-- The outfit must be made out of materials EVERYONE has in their home.
And through much deliberation, Portia D. decided to create a garment out of Junk Mail.
And here's how it happened.
Step One: The Body
Cut Mail into long strips and weave together. Hold the pieces down with glue (preferably from HOT GLUE GUN)
This becomes the main part of the dress. Make sure it covers from your breasts to your hips! And give yourself extra length when shaping it around your body. REMINDER: It will look bulky!
Step Two: The Tassels
Use envelopes for the tassels. Cut the sides of the envelope so that it is open. Then cut strips up the envelope like this.
DO NOT cut all the way up the envelope or it will just become small strips of paper. The point is to have a BLOCK of strips that are connected!
Glue two or three layers underneath each other to create length, fullness and well... layers.
Step Three: Decorations
It's good to start with this little guy. Made from cutting mail into a long thin strip and twisting.
Then you can braid three pieces together or twirl them in a circle to make buttons.
Portia D. also glued some of the twists into the skirt!
Then you glue it on.
What's an outfit, without accessories?
PS, the belt helps give the dress shape.
