Young artist wears glass around her neck to be beautiful

Philadelphia art students Abigail Kiefer and Emily McDonald use their art, especially their bodies to question the lengths women go to be beautiful.

Abigail Kiefer

Emily McDonald

This piece by Emily is made of sharp and dangerous shards of glass! REAL GLASS!

She reports that wearing the piece was extremely difficult and marred her skin.

Emily feels that the glass is a metaphor for the precarious trinkets, substances and rituals that woman endure for societal beauty.

Do you think women push it too far just to look and feel attractive?

Here's our sassy feminist recreation:

The Boondock Sinners

This recreation is an angst filled teenage wet dream:

-slicked back hair

More Winter Looks

Live a MORE FULFILLING life with these 3 small activities!

Who needs a whole new year to start fresh?!

Starting today (2/1/2014) Portia D. of Deporian has started three 30 day challenges!

But first: Inspiration (This will get you pumped)

Challenge One: No added sugar

 The Guidelines
Challenge yourself not to eat anything that you know has added sugar of 5g or more. If you're unsure, don't consume anything that tastes sweet.

 This doesn't include fruits

Why do it?
Our body can become addicted to processed sugar which feed a fungus known as candida. This can cause certain yeast infections (not just the one between your legs!) Candida overgrowth is linked to depression, anxiety, fatigue, irritability and difficulty concentrating to name a few!

Stay Motivated
See this as a way to challenge your cooking skills and taste buds. Try making meals that evoke different flavors like savory, spicy, bitter or tart!

Challenge Two: Exercise and Stretch

The Guidelines
Exercise for a total of 45 minutes. Stretch for 45 minutes. This is the bare minimum.

Take into account that you should stretch before and after exercise anyways to avoid injury.

Why do it?
Everybody knows that exercising releases the feel good chemical "endorphin", but also stretching keeps you limber and flexible, less likely to throw a muscle, and more in tune with your body.

Stay Motivated
Stretching and exercising with friends or in front of a good show is a great way to keep your mind off of the repetition.

Challenge Three: Look Nice/Daily Photography

The Guidelines
Dress to impress (yourself at least) every single day! No repeat outfits. Take at least one photo of your great outfit. Keep it to yourself of share it with Deporian!

You can repeat items, but not whole looks.

Why do it?
Everyone has their days where they want to slouch around in PJ's or sweats, but looking good is actually linked to feeling good. This can boost self, esteem, outlook on life and increase motivation.

Stay Motivated
We recommend looking up the latest styles or at our own archive to get inspiration for the day. You'll definitely receive positive feedback for looking nice anyways ;)

Bonus!!!Life Challenge: Drink More Water

The Guidelines
We should drink a minimum of 8 cups a day, but for some of us that's hard. We want to challenge ourselves to drink one more glass a day than we usually drink until we reach those 8 a day.

Drink out of containers that clearly label the capacity so you can monitor your intake.

Why do it?
Our bodies are 75% water. More simply, if you want to live, you need water. Also, drinking water improves skin, hair, nails and even your mood! Feeling a little sick? Drink water. Anxious? Drink water.

So what do you say! Are you ready to challenge yourself?
